X algorithm FAQ

Did X change the algorithm today?

X publishes a new code update almost every weekday. The latest we've analysed is Thursday 29 October 2026: Ad changes only. See https://algowatchx.pages.dev/changes/2026-10-29.html.

Do likes matter more on X now?

Yes. The like weight went from 0.5 to 0.6 on 13 Oct 2026 and to 0.66 on 14 Oct 2026, about 32% higher overall. That's high confidence, read straight from the code.

Do video views still matter on X?

A video tap now counts for 71% less (0.07 → 0.02, 13 Oct 2026). Time spent watching and reading counts for more.

Is X's algorithm really open source?

Yes. X publishes it at github.com/xai-org/x-algorithm. Some values are defaults that X can override in experiments, so the code isn't the whole story.

How often does X change its algorithm?

In October 2026 there were 20 code updates in 29 days. About 9 of them changed a live setting. The rest were plumbing, experiments that start switched off, or ad changes.

Does 'not interested' hurt my reach?

Yes, and more than before. The penalty got about 10% harsher on 14 Oct 2026.

Are replies being treated as spam?

The reply-spam thresholds changed on 3 and 8 Oct 2026. The coordinated-spam check now only covers accounts with more than 180k followers. Genuine replies are fine.

How accurate is this site?

Every claim links to the exact commit. We label each one high, medium or low confidence and say 'unclear' when it is. We're not affiliated with X.
